Day 2: Drive from Kathmandu to Kyirung

Gateway to Tibet

On the second day of your journey, you will begin your adventure towards Tibet with an early departure from Kathmandu. After a hearty breakfast at the hotel, you’ll embark on a scenic drive towards the Nepal-Tibet border. The drive takes you along a picturesque highway that winds through the Nepali countryside, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayas, rolling hills, rivers, and lush valleys.

Day 03: Rest Day in Kyirung

Acclimatization and Exploration

On Day 03 of your journey, you will have the opportunity to rest and acclimatize in Kyirung (also known as Kerong). This is a crucial part of the trip, as the altitude of Kyirung is approximately 2,700 meters (8,858 feet), and it's important to allow your body to adjust to the thinning air before heading further into the higher altitudes of Tibet.

Day 04: Drive Kyirung to Saga (4450m)

The Journey Through the Tibetan Desert

After a restful night and a hearty breakfast in Kyirung, you will begin your first long drive in Tibet, heading towards Saga. The road will take you through some of the most breathtaking and rugged landscapes in the Tibetan Plateau. Today’s journey is crucial for acclimatization, as you’ll be driving at higher altitudes, and the scenic beauty of the desert-like terrain will be your constant companion.

Your Tibetan guide and driver will ensure that you are comfortable during the long drive, and they will provide commentary on the changing landscapes and cultural insights along the way.

Day 05: Saga to Paryang (4558m) to Mansarovar (4600m)

A Cherished Journey Towards Mount Kailash

On Day 05, after an early breakfast in Saga, you will begin your journey towards Lake Mansarovar, one of the holiest lakes in the world and a gateway to the sacred Mount Kailash. Today’s drive is long and challenging, covering a distance of approximately 507 kilometers over 8-9 hours, but it is also one of the most spiritually rewarding parts of the trip.

As you leave Saga behind, the landscape gradually transforms into more open plains, with vast, rugged desert stretches, and the majestic Himalayan mountains rising in the distance. The air is thinner here, and the altitude is above 4500 meters. However, the incredible beauty of the scenery will more than compensate for the fatigue.

Day 06: Drive to Darchen (4,570m / 14,975ft)

The Gateway to Mount Kailash Kora

After a peaceful morning spent near the shores of Lake Mansarovar, you will continue your journey towards Darchen. This small Tibetan town serves as the starting point for the Mount Kailash Kora (circumambulation).

Sunrise at Lake Mansarovar: If you wake early, you'll be able to witness the sunrise over Lake Mansarovar, with the first rays of the sun casting golden hues on the snow-capped peaks of Mount Kailash and Gurla Mandhata. This is a magical moment for pilgrims, as the shimmering lake and towering mountains create an ethereal atmosphere.

After breakfast, you'll start the short drive from Lake Mansarovar to Darchen, which is situated about 40 kilometers away from the lake.

Day 07: Trek to Dira-Puk (5,000m)

A Day of Scenic Beauty and Spiritual Reflection

After a restful night in Darchen, you will begin your Mount Kailash Kora (circumambulation) trek today. This will be the first leg of the 3-day trek around the holy mountain, and it is one of the most spiritually significant and physically demanding portions of the journey. The day’s trek will take you to Dira-Puk, located at 5,000 meters (16,404 feet).

Day 08: Trek from Dira-Puk to Zuthul-Puk

(18 km, 6-7 hours, 550m ascent, 600m descent)

Day 08 is known as the hardest yet holiest day of the Mount Kailash Kora (circumambulation). Today, you will face the Dolma La Pass, the highest point of your journey at 5,670 meters (18,600 feet). The Dolma La Pass is not just a physical challenge, but a deeply spiritual milestone in the pilgrimage, and reaching its summit is considered one of the most significant moments of the entire trek.

Day 09: End of Kailash Parikrama and Drive to Saga

Completion of Kailash Kora: Completing the Kailash Parikrama is a significant spiritual milestone, and the final walk from Zuthul-Puk to Darchen is a moment of reflection and accomplishment.
